Change in Charging Rules for Customer Service

juni 26, 2017 / Evolve IP

You still pay extra for 0909 and 0906 numbers, but for 0900 service numbers, used by over 19,000 customer service departments in the Netherlands, this has changed.

Currently, companies can charge an information charge of up to €1 per call on top of the normal call charges. On March 2nd, the European Court of Justice put an end to this and minister Kamp implemented it for the Dutch market.

If a customer calls an 0900 number, it cannot cost more than calling a regular phone number. You will only be allowed to charge call charges. The reasoning from the European Court of Justice is that calling a customer service department is part of the acquisition cost of a product or service. Extra costs supposedly scare customers away from appealing to their warranty.
